Brittany is an accomplished bioengineer and leader with deep expertise in molecular biology reagent R&D and extensive experience in NGS and diagnostics. As Director of Reagent Development at Pacific Biosciences, she led the Product Development Core Team to launch the Onso platform, the most accurate short-read sequencer on the market and PacBio’s first short-read sequencer. Before PacBio's $800M acquisition of Omniome in 2021, she invented core clustering and sequencing technologies that contributed to the development of Omniome's Sequencing by Binding, culminating in the publication of seven patents. She holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Rice University, where she developed point-of-care tests for HIV-1 diagnosis in low-resource settings, and a BA in Physics from Vanderbilt University.
Kurt is a molecular biologist with extensive experience in both academic and industry settings. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from UC Irvine.
His career in industry began at Actavalon Inc., where he was instrumental in establishing a fully operational laboratory. He designed drug screening assays to evaluate small molecule reactivation of the tumor suppressor protein p53, leading to the screening of hundreds of compounds and delivering critical SAR data. This work helped identify the mechanism of action for a novel compound series.
Kurt later joined Omniome (PacBio), where he led the Clustering Biochemistry team. His contributions were key in developing clustering and paired end workflows for the Onso NGS platform, which delivers the most accurate DNA sequencing data on the market. His leadership and project management within the Onso Product Life Cycle resulted in multiple patents and accolades, including the Biochemist of the Year award for 2023-2024.
